It is the greatest question in life: “What is my purpose?”

We all ask it at some point, it is human to wonder at the reason for our creation, the beginning of our search for God. It causes us to process and decifer what the intentions of our Creator was when He decided to breathe life into our lungs.

In the simplest terms and unashamed language, our purpose is to glorify God.

He created us for His glory, to show the bounty of His love, His power, and His great compassion.

That’s the task laid upon every life- be a glorious example of God’s majesty.

The pleasure that most are granted, is years and decades to accomplish this very thing. We do so in relationships, in our work, in both the small tasks and the grand pieces of our lives.

Jenri lived for nearly 4 years. Most of those years were spent in cribs and in the arms of dozens of our caring friends. Rescued 2 years ago and on the brink of death, we have had the blessing of caring for him during the critical stages of his recovery. A little boy who’s body was constantly fighting against him, we were desperate to find a way to save his life.

We watched him fight.

We saw the life in him when he would smile.

We saw it when we would say his name.

We saw it when he would reach up and stroke our faces.

Now, a week after his passing, we wonder. How does his life show God’s purpose?

The answers could not be more clear:

“…we held hands and our eyes met. I will never forget you…”

“Jenri touched more people in his short life than most of us could ever reach.”

“…he stole the hearts of many.”

“My sons and I smiled so much as we rocked sweet Jenri.”

“Words fail me. Pushing through tears…. because his life is worthy.”

“Jenri, you showed me so much of the world. By simply being vulnerable. By needing others to help. You reminded me that this life is not about me.”

“Sweet boy, thank you for changing my life. Thank you for opening my eyes and my heart. Thank you for giving so much love to so many.”

Jenri taught us. That is how he glorified the Father.

His purpose was to glorify God, just as ours is.

His reward? Completing the work God had for his life and being united with the Father for eternity.
