Matthew 18: 1-5 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

Over the last few weeks, I had the blessing of helping with several baby rescues in remote mountain villages here in Guatemala. The children that were rescued were from some of the most impoverished areas in the country, which was about 2.5 hours away from Hope of Life. It is incredible to be a part of the Hope of Life team that works with so much passion and goes to any length to bring help to sick children in desperate need of medical care. These little ones were suffering from severe malnutrition, parasites and infections. Many children will die in the mountains without the healing power of God and the incredible medical care and support they receive here at St. Lukes Hospital. Long drives, mountain roads, extreme heat, difficult hiking, crossing rivers, and forging through the mountains—we do with great joy to be able to get to these hurting children and their families. Every single child is worth every bit of effort to find and bring here for help. This is a practical gospel. This is how the love of Jesus is shown to these families.

Isn’t this exactly what Jesus has done for us?  Jesus searches for us, He pursues us when we are lost, and He welcomes us into His arms when we are found.

Luke 19:10 says, “For the son of man came to seek and save the lost.” I am so thankful for my savior that rescued me, and I am praising God that I am able to use my life to give others this same opportunity.
