Diego is 5 years old, full of personality and held back by nothing. He was born completely deaf and with an unrelated genetic syndrome. After being abandoned as an infant while sick and malnourished, he was rescued by Hope of Life; then cared for and nursed back to health in St. Luke’s hospital. Just last year, Diego was brought into our lives when we answered God’s call to welcome another child into our home. As missionaries caring for once abandoned, fatherless children; it is our hearts calling and passion to care for children in greatest need. But when we received the call that Diego was in great need of a family, we knew the need was even beyond what we could provide; he needed a miracle.

This little boy was trapped in a world of silence, crippled by fear. He cried constantly from the fear of all things, new and unknown. He threw screaming, horrendous fits to avoid going to sleep, because he feared being alone. He was unaware of how to communicate his needs or express his feelings. I wondered how we would communicate with him if he can’t hear or speak. It didn’t take long to see God break through those barriers. Diego soon conquered every fear, and learned his own way to communicate through sign language and reading expressions. Diego’s God given, firecracker personality was given with purpose to make him a fighter, one to never give up. We give thanks to God for saving his life and giving him hope for his future.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Diego recently received news that he is a perfect candidate for cochlear implants. These implants would give him the hope of hearing and speaking, the opportunity to learn, grow and experience life just like any other healthy child. We are praying and believing that God is preparing the way and opening up new doors of opportunity for this child of His.

Please pray with us for this life changing possibility to become a reality for little Diego.
