An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest -Benjamin Franklin

As we come to the close of the school year here in Guatemala, I am realizing how far my kids have come in their education in the four and a half years that we have had them. Grade point averages have come up 40 points in some cases! One of our boys is 14 and just this month he started reading in his special education class. Some of our kids had no aspiration of a career four years ago, and now want to be architects, therapists, nurses, pilots and more. I watch now as kids complete their homework, doing the very best they can to get all the points they can and I am overjoyed at the growth I see in them. This year is especially significant for our family because we have two children graduating high school and going onto university, one entering 12th grade, two finishing what is called básico (equivalent to junior high), one graduating middle school, one graduating elementary school, and another graduating kindergarten! It’s a year of great accomplishments and we praise the Lord for His provision.

It’s a great blessing to see our children value their education. No matter where you grow up, education is important. It’s a gateway to a better life, to provision, to making this country better. In a country where education is not always an option and poverty is profound, our children are blessed to have the opportunity to study, go to university, and pursue their dreams. We are confident that God has great plans for their lives to give them a future and hope.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
