Often we talk about rescuing or sponsoring children as separate actions, however, our intentions are not to “save” children from their current situations, but to defend their right to be children. Giving children the ability to grow, learn, and ultimately thrive, so they can become the adults they rightful deserve to be.
The opportunities we give children by changing their environment is not unilateral. It doesn’t stop with a rescue mission or sponsorship, that is only where it begins. We are starting them on a path of success that will HOPEFULLY continue for the rest of their precious lives.
So we challenge you to change the way you think. To think of yourself as a “Defender of Children,” as a savior for their childhood. You are a vital part of a child’s life, you have helped a child begin their journey, while the outcome is up to them, you have made all the difference by being there in the beginning.
Throughout the next year, we really would like you to start thinking of yourself as defender. Spread the word to friends and family, people in your neighborhood, your favorite organizations, letting them know who you are and the impact you are having on children in Guatemala. This is not an easy task, yes it can be a burden, but being a hero has its challenges as we all know.
We are so lucky to be able to witness the start and watch the progress these children will make throughout their lives.
