Ending generational poverty is one of the underscoring tenants of Hope of Life’s Mission: Saving Lives. We believe strategic programs like Community Transformation can be the catalyst to change a nation. Read on to learn about how this program is changing communities, one entreprenuer at a time.

Blanca never had the opportunity to attend school, never learning how to read or write.

As a 32-year-old single mother of 3, she works in the coffee fields every day; her children alongside her. Despite their efforts to provide for the family, it wasn’t enough. To make ends meet, Blanca would walk house to house selling Tamales.

Breaking the Cycle:

This is the heartbreaking cycle of generational poverty: an endless imbalance between work and education. Luckily, we’ve created a program that can help Blanca and her whole community BREAK this Cycle.

We call it COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION, and it all starts with Community Partnership.

Our Community Transformation program is essentially our investment in rural communities where we provide expert training so that they can pull THEMSELVES out of poverty. CT provides sustainable solutions for income generation, farming practices, community leadership, hygiene, medical care, and education.

Hope for the Future:

Now, thanks to the Community Transformation Program, Blanca has hope for the financial future of her family – and we have a reach chance to break the generational poverty cycle. With support from our local team of Agricultural Experts and Field Technicians, she has learned how her crop can THRIVE using updated farming practices, methodologies and materials.

Financial Success and Increased Income:

With these new farming practices and financial training from experts, family farms in Blanca’s community have experienced 6x the amount of coffee production; meaning a six-fold INCREASE in family income in less than 2 years!

Accompanying this financial success in her community, our team of trainers taught community-wide education sessions on the importance of Savings – an important part of any small business! This training  led many program participants to open their FIRST-EVER bank accounts! This practice has allowed many families to not only re-invest in their farms but also invest in new income generating ventures like small businesses.

Ending Generational Poverty through Community Transformation:

Change doesn’t happen overnight, though it sure feels that way when you see this type of drastic change in just a few short years. We’re excited to have implemented this program in several rural Guatemalan communities and will keep you updated all along the way.
