In our transformative Community Transformation program, we don’t just partner with communities; we empower them to pull THEMSELVES out of poverty. La Jigua, one of our partner communities, has embraced this sentiment wholeheartedly, showcasing remarkable progress in just a few months of Leadership Development sessions.
Taking the Lead:
The local council, known as COCODE (similar to a town council), has emerged as a dynamic force, making significant strides in addressing community needs. They’ve not only identified pressing issues but also devised a comprehensive plan, mobilizing resources and funds to meet immediate needs.
A Collaborative Endeavor:
Rallying the entire community around a crucial cause, the COCODE initiated a project to enhance the local school. The urgency was evident as 76 children across six grade levels were sharing one cramped learning space. This community decided it was time to expand education, and took matters into their own newly empowered hands!
Community Unity in Action:
Sixty-two local men cleared land and provided physical labor for the construction of a much-needed NEW classroom. Simultaneously, a dedicated team of local ladies worked tirelessly, preparing and serving food for all involved in this collaborative effort.
Celebrating Milestones:
While their journey is just beginning, we celebrate the completion of a new classroom and sanitary school bathrooms. This achievement ensures that children in La Jigua have a safe and conducive environment for learning.
