When children come to the Village of Transformation – they are not just assigned a bed in an orphanage, but are given a family. A family that provides children with a chance to have a childhood, to experience the love of a mother, father, and siblings – this is the most wonderful gift we could ever give to a child. This remarkable experience is extremely different from other organizations and we take great pride in restoring the family atmosphere for our children. Many of the children who live in the Village of Transformation were abused, abandoned, had no place to call home, and no one to call a family.
This was the dream of our Co-Founder, Cheryl Vargas as she has always dreamed of giving every child a home. Her heart ached at the thought of all the children in Guatemala who had no home, no mother, no father to call their own. If only we could transform the system and give children who have never belonged anywhere a place to call their own. The vision of this project is to give these children a place to belong- a place in which they would no longer be called orphans. We never imaged that by making Cheryl’s dream come true we would also be making the dream of people like Enrique come true, too – the dream to become a parent.
The below quote is from Enrique, one of foster parents:
”It is not about what I do for them, it is about what they have done for me, how they have changed my life and the life of my family, it is what they have transformed in me. They are my children, my family, they have given me what nature could not give me- the incredible privilege of being a father, they have transformed our lives.”
Speaking with Enrique – it was made clear to us how natural and simple this transformation was for his family and many of the other families in the Village of Transformation. Truly, these families were meant be to together even if not created or defined in the common way. The love that fills the village is easily witnessed by anyone who pays a visit to these families.
Since the summer when the Village of Transformation opened, we have been blessed to give children a chance at a childhood and women and men the chance to call themselves mothers and fathers. It is just the beginning and the impact has been monumentally. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for these families and the families to come …
