2 Timothy 2:15

Study to show yourself approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Over the past few years, I have found myself in a constant state of learning and growth. I felt that God had called me to be willing to go back to school to be better trained to serve in ministry outside of the United States. In 2015, I became a full-time student at Liberty University, at 39 years old. This came as a challenge to me—I had to devote many hours of hard work and study to make it possible to achieve these goals.

I was so thankful to have completed my program in Aviation Mechanics and that I could take a break from being a student for a while. It was only a few months later that God gave me the opportunity to study something else very new to me—helicopters. Once again, I was a student, busy with my studies and trying to learn everything I was capable of in order to complete my helicopter training.

Our family moved to Guatemala to serve with Hope of Life in July and everyday I still find myself studying and learning. I have been working with a Spanish tutor from Antigua, Guatemala, working diligently to be able to communicate in a whole new way. I find myself doing my own research on the computer, finding ways to solve the complications and problems that arise with the broken vehicles in the shop. I am constantly learning how I can best help in the mechanic shop here at Hope of Life and give a helping hand with the knowledge I have acquired over the years and everyday.

I know now that God wants us to keep learning. Keep studying. Keep working hard. Continue to learn more and more each day. To be our best and to be prepared for the work He has planned for us to do to advance His kingdom. I want to be an approved worker of Jesus where He has called me to serve. So, I’ll continue to study, work hard, and be diligent that I may be found a faithful servant here in Guatemala.
